FUNCTION/SCOPE:
This position
assumes responsibility for the planning, direction and execution of ADME,
safety and toxicology studies to support compounds in development.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Requires DVM or
Ph.D. in pharmacology or toxicology with 5-10 plus years
industry experience preferably in oncology. Experience with PK, ADME, safety
and toxicology studies, and the understanding of small molecule drugs is
essential. Experience in bioanalytical methods
development would be advantageous. Previous experience in writing portions of INDs, is also preferred. Must have participated in drug
development project teams, have previous experience with multi-functional
preclinical research teams and have had extensive experience in working with
CROs.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain current broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles
and theories and agency regulations in the designated field of responsibility.
• Ensure communications and awareness of supervisor of ongoing
studies and progress
• Participate in the establishment departmental and program
objectives and priorities to meet organization goals and timelines.
• Evaluate studies on both near term and long-term basis.
• Ensure completion of specific milestones to meet timelines and
budgets. Take corrective action to assure timely goal achievement.
• Manage outsourcing activities and facilitate and manage group or
project meetings both internal and external and allocate resources appropriately.
• Use professional concepts to contribute to development of
company concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and
effective ways.
• Travel is
required in the U.S. and Canada approximately 20-30%.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
• A track record of drug development, with a focus on ADME, safety
and toxicology, with experience in oncology
• Expertise in small molecule pharmacology and preclinical
development.
• In-depth knowledge of the principles and practice for ADME and
toxicology and the various major agency regulations for the development of
oncology compounds
• Experience in oncology discovery and development.
• Expertise in
taking a product from bench scale laboratory to early clinical trials.
PREFFERED: Prefer San Diego resident, but not limited to
geographical area (within US/Canada).

DESCRIPTION:
Incumbent will
work under the direction of the Animal Care Program Animal Resources
Supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for the physical environment for a
group of assigned laboratory animals. Performs routine animal health related
tasks. Performs basic animal husbandry, assists with rodent
colony maintenance (breeding, weaning, etc.). Operates
computer terminal. Maintains records on animal
deliveries. Flexibility to adjust work schedule to accommodate varying work loads. Ability to work weekends, holidays and
overtime.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Skill to operate and maintain mechanical equipment, autoclaves, cagewashers, vehicles, janitorial equipment (i.e. floor
scrubbers).
* Strong organizational skills in performing assigned tasks.
* Ability to learn and apply principles of sanitizing and
disinfecting.
* Sensitivity to the needs of caged laboratory animals.
* Manual dexterity; Ability to write legibly; Ability to use
metric system; Ability to operate a computer terminal and use telephone.
* Skilled in the
administration of medications: oral, topical and injectable;
skilled in humane methods of euthanasia in laboratory animals; Skilled with
clinical diagnostic lab specimen collection techniques.
Preferred: AALAS certification ALAT or higher
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
OF EMPLOYMENT: Valid
California Drivers License and background check. Must be able
to pass a pre-hire physical examination.
